ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:

Adopters must be at least 18 years old and present a valid photo ID at the time of adoption. If you have a dog at home and are interested in adopting another, you are welcome to bring your resident dog for a meet! In select cases, we may strongly recommend or require children or other dogs to meet your new dog prior to adoption.

All dogs must go home with a collar and leash; all cats must go home with a collar and carrier. All items required for adoption are available for purchase. Adopters are also welcome to bring their own collars, carriers, and leashes.

PROCEsS & FeEs

Adoption fees vary by animal. The Lawrence Humane Society utilizes variable adoption pricing. The higher adoption fees for more desirable or easier-to-adopt animals leave a financial legacy for the animals in our care who need extra time, TLC, or medical care before they can be made available for adoption.
